Common Questions
Alerts aren’t showing up
- Make sure Hey Listen is running — look for the bell icon in your menu bar. If it’s not there, open Hey Listen from your Applications folder.
- Open Settings → Calendars and confirm the status shows green “Connected.” If it shows red “Denied,” click Open System Settings and enable Hey Listen under Privacy & Security → Calendars.
- Confirm the calendars you want alerts for are toggled on in Settings → Calendars.
- Check Settings → Alerts and confirm the alert time is set to the value you expect.
- If you use Settings → Filters, make sure work hours or RSVP filters aren’t excluding the events you want alerts for.
Calendar access was denied — how do I fix it?
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars and make sure Hey Listen is enabled. Then return to Settings → Calendars in Hey Listen — the status should update to green “Connected.”
The app isn’t in my menu bar
Hey Listen runs entirely from the menu bar with no dock icon. If you don’t see the bell icon, the app may not be running — open it from your Applications folder. Once running, it starts automatically at login by default (configurable in Settings → General).
If your menu bar is crowded, macOS may be hiding the icon. Try holding the Command ⌘ key and dragging menu bar icons to make room, or use a tool like Bartender to manage menu bar space.
A meeting link isn’t showing on my alert
Hey Listen shows a Join Meeting button when it finds a recognized video conferencing link in the event’s location or notes field. Supported services include Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, and others.
If the button isn’t appearing, check that the event in Calendar.app has a meeting URL in the location or notes. Some calendar integrations don’t populate this field automatically.
I bought Hey Listen on another Mac — how do I restore it?
Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be used on all your Macs. Open Settings → General and click Restore Purchase. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID you used to buy the app.
Hey Listen isn’t launching at login
Open Settings → General and make sure Launch at Login is enabled. If it’s already on but Hey Listen isn’t starting automatically, try toggling it off and back on.
